About Meadville Children’s Center

Established in 1994, the center received a start-up grant from Allegheny College and initially operated within the Jewish Community Center on Park Avenue. With just two children enrolled at the outset, the center later relocated to its present location in the Odd Fellows Building on North Main Street. In April 2000, it rebranded as the Meadville Children’s Center (MCC) to align more closely with its community-focused mission. Over time, MCC has expanded its capacity to serve over 75 children.

Visitors & Volunteers

Act 151 and Act 34 Clearances are now required for all volunteers and classroom visitors. If you plan to volunteer or visit the classroom at any point in the day (including drop off, pick up, and special events) for more than 15 minutes, please apply for your clearances right away and give a copy of each one to the center. Clearances are free for volunteers and can be completed online.  If you have gotten your clearances within the last 5 years we can use a copy of them in addition to a copy of our Disclosure Statement that is signed on site.

Any parent who has been convicted of a crime against children may not come to our center.  In cases where a parent has been convicted of a crime against children, another adult must be responsible for picking up their child.

Our Board of Directors

As an independent nonprofit corporation, MCC is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors as well as the Center Director. Board Members, elected by the families of enrolled children, serve two-year terms. Their responsibilities include establishing policies, addressing relevant Center matters, and making decisions through discussion and voting. Parental involvement in both Board activities and other Center engagements is highly encouraged. Monthly Board meetings are held, with posted times to facilitate parental attendance and participation.
