Board of Directors
The MCC is an independent nonprofit corporation, directed by a volunteer
Board of Directors and a Director. The Board Members serve terms of
two years, and are elected by the families of children enrolled in the
Center. It is the job of the Board to set policies for the Center and
discuss and vote on pertinent issues concerning the Center and its operation.
Parents are strongly urged to become involved in Board and other Center
activities. The Board of Directors meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
Times and dates are posted. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate
in meetings. An annual meeting is held in June to elect new members.
Interns and Work-Study
Students
MCC employs student interns and work-study student workers from Allegheny
College. Students are chosen for work based on experience with children
and availability to work. Students must receive their Act 33 and Act
34 clearances and are not left unsupervised with the children, unless
they meet the qualifications of a teacher.
Interns work at the Center 10 hours a week, learning the overall operation
of the Center and receiving much hands-on experience. They have a weekly
meeting time with a director when they discuss a planned childcare topic
and go over relevant articles on the subject.
Volunteers and Parents
The MCC was founded by a group of dedicated volunteers, and therefore
highly values volunteer efforts by parents and friends of the Center.
Not only does volunteer work help keep down the costs of providing child
care to families, but it also helps promote the warm and welcoming environment,
for which MCC strives. We will notify parents regularly of projects
needing volunteers, and would welcome any parent's input and fresh ideas.
